At the bottom of the river by Jamaica Kincaid analysis and summary  

 

This story is about particular, unique and beautiful place, the narrator talked about a terrain where not everybody can go there because it is an especial place which only the most strongest person can arrived, in addition this story talk about the some persons in this place, for example, the narrator describe the feelings and the condition of a man who lies on his bed and wait, but, that man does not know for what is he waiting, besides this man felt incomplete, he had a lot question about the live, he did not conceive the purpose of his live and he wonder if the things are real or not.

 

Also, the stories focus primarily on female relationships, particularly the mother and girl relationship. The stories are told from the perspective of girl and cover such themes as the mother and daughter relationship, the potency and beauty of nature, the male and female divide, among others. We can see a relationship between the strong and the weak, the dominator and the dominated. Maybe one of the most persistent themes is the search for identity, as a child, a teenager, a female and independent woman, an Afro-Caribbean, against hostility and isolation.

 

In addition, the narrator described about the point of view and the relationship of the man, his wife and his child, in this moment we can see a confused man who had the support and love of his wife and son, and in a final point of view he tried to see the beauty in the common things for example, the light of the sun, the water at the river, and I agree with that position because we have to have positive mind, we have to see the all good things in world, there are more reason to be happy because there are more beautiful things, everything has its positive and negative side but we have to emphases in the positive side.  We can see that there are two men the first one is alone and the second one man has a wife and child, the last one is able to create and love, and participate, opposed to first man who does not, he is incapable of giving meaning and interpretation to the landscape because he is uncertain, useless, but he is more happy that the first one, they have similar question, but the different is the point of view. 

    

Afterward, the narrator describe a woman who had a monument, and a creature who is not male or female who live in mound, in this point we can see real and unreal elements, and  it is important to know that the narrator talked about the live and the death, she consider “the death” as a natural thing, I agree with her  because we cannot talk about live without talk about death because everything has a final, the human being cannot avoid the death but we do not have to think in that every day because it can be so sad and make us forget the important thing of the live. In addition, in this story we can see a lovely relationship between a girl and his mother, the narrator talked with love about her mother, the author describe the love and adoration which her mother gave her.

Moreover, the narrator looked at the bottom of the river where she could see a house with only one room, she describe all the things in there, after that, a woman came in at the room, then the author describe a world that she saw at the bottom of the river, this world is beautiful, where the moon and sun appear at the same time, where there is not question, time and nothing could be hidden, there is not shadow, there are not day and night, and there is a beautiful environment with mountains, valleys, desert, rivers, forest and different kind of animals and they lived in this world in peace and happy, after that, she took a different form and the narrator took part of this wonderful place, that experience helps her to becomes in a better person, feel better and grew solid and complete.  

 

In conclusion, in this short tale, we can see different elements that was described by the narrator, where she explain different characters in a special place, those persons have different questions and feelings, especially, they want to know about the purpose of the thing, the purpose of the live and the death, for what the things happened, the point of view of the author describes a perfect world at the bottom of the river where there is not pain and where the animals and humans can live in peace. Personally for me I feel agree in some things, for example when the author talked about the man who felt incomplete and is waiting for something that he did not know what is it, usually, I felt in this way, because, live has to have its purpose, I think that everybody often thinks in that,  the things happened by a reason but we can know what reason it is, also,  we have to improve everyday but in occasion it is not easy but we have to make changes to make sense of live and grew as a human beings in the best way possible even if we do not know the purpose or our role in the world.
